  • Jacob Mielke, P.E., President

    Jacob Mielke, P.E., graduated from the University of Wyoming in the spring of 2012 with a B.S. Degree in Architectural Engineering with a Structural Emphasis. He has been working at SEAD since 2012 and obtained his professional licence in April of 2017. He currently holds professional engineering licences in the states of Colorado, Wyoming and Texas. Jacob, along with his wife Caryn, purchased SEAD in January of 2018. He began working in the construction field with his father when he was 8 years old and continued to work in this industry throughout college. This has provided him with a substantial background in the construction industry. He enjoys living and working in Steamboat Springs with his wife, Caryn Mielke. He loves to spend time outdoors and is passionate about skiing, hiking, biking and hockey.

  • Caryn Mielke, P.E., Vice President

    Caryn Mielke, P.E., earned her professional engineering licence in 2017, and has worked as a project engineer for SEAD since 2013. Caryn graduated from the University of Wyoming in December 2011 with a B.S. Degree in Architectural Engineering with a Structural Emphasis and a second degree in the Honors Program. She graduated valedictorian with Magna Cum Laude honors. She has been interested in designing structures since age 10, and has a passion for environmental sustainably and continuing her professional development. Caryn considers it a dream-come-true to live, work and recreate in Steamboat with her husband Jacob Mielke.

  • Ryan Malone, P.E., Senior Engineer

    Ryan Malone, P.E., graduated from the University of Wyoming in December 2018 with a B.S. Degree in Architectural Engineering with a Structural Emphasis. He has multiple years of construction experience, which has given him a leg up in the design and engineering field. Ryan is from Saratoga, Wyoming and is blessed to find himself working and living in the mountainous Steamboat Springs area. He enjoys hiking, camping, football, spending his time outdoors, and is an avid hunter and fisherman.

  • Marvin Standekar, P.E., Project Manager

    Marvin Standekar, P.E., graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in the spring of 2014 with a M.S. Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Emphasis. He has been working at various structural engineering firms in both Alabama and Kentucky focusing on commercial, industrial and residential projects. He currently holds professional engineering licenses in the states of Colorado, Alabama and Tennessee. He is excited to be working in a beautiful area such as Steamboat Springs, where he can combine his love for the outdoors with his profession.

  • Sierra Bowen, P.E., Project Engineer

    Sierra Bowen, P.E., graduated from Clarkson University of New York in May 2017 with a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Concentration. She has a background in construction engineering, working on major NYC bridge and airport projects. She has always had a passion for residential design and is thrilled to be able to work in a mountain town to combine her passion for engineering and outdoor activities. Sierra enjoys skiing, hiking, camping, biking, and getting outside to experience nature.

  • Derek Rubin, EIT, Staff Engineer

    Derek Rubin, EIT, graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2019 with a B.S Degree in Civil Engineering. He gained industry experience as a field engineer working for a bridge contractor, followed by a year of high-end carpentry with a custom home builder in Newport, Rhode Island. Making the move to Colorado and seeing the style of architecture in Steamboat has inspired him to pursue residential design. Derek enjoys climbing, backpacking, biking, snowboarding and spending time with his pup, Ari.

  • Kristyn Malone, Office Manager

    Kristyn Malone graduated from Colorado Mesa University in the spring of 2015 with a degree in finance and management. She feels fortunate to be able to work with family in a field that has intrigued her at a young age. She loves to spend time outdoors doing all the activities Steamboat has to offer and loves to teach tennis on the side.

Steamboat Engineering And Design, Inc., (SEAD) strives to provide the best service we can to the building industry and general public. Our mission is to provide clients with effective and efficient designs of buildings and structures that suit their needs and desires. We aim to use our best practices, experience, knowledge, creativity and strategizing to design buildings that will perform optimally in regard to thermal energy, structural integrity, moisture mitigation, human comfort, functionality and cost efficiency. Furthermore, we desire to design detailed layouts, connections and systems that can effectively be understood and built by the contractors and subcontractors of the industry. Our structural analysis shall aways meet and exceed applicable codes. We are committed to life safety when designing any project. We aim to work as a collaborative and constructive team with the clients, architects, builders, and other trades on every project. We know we have succeeded when the builders and owners are happy with their project, and the plans are detailed enough to provide the builders with as much initial foresight and as much reliable design as possible to save overall costs on the construction of the project, and the final design meets all applicable codes and provides a structurally stable and optimally performing building.
