About Us

SEAD is a professional organization located in Steamboat Springs, Colorado offering integrated engineering and design services to the residential and commercial building industries in Northwest Colorado.  Our team-oriented approach to design problems produces innovative, practical, efficient and comprehensive design solutions for projects of any size.  This is a highly efficient process that provides our customers with a superior product.

Our experience at SEAD has proven that a high level of accuracy and detail in the design and drawing phase will translate to much greater savings in the construction field.  We aim to use our best practices, experience, knowledge, creativity and strategizing to design buildings that will perform optimally in regards to thermal energy, structural integrity, moisture mitigation, and cost efficiency.  Our goal is to work as a collaborative team with the clients, architects, builders, and other trades on every project to provide an excellent design and rewarding outcome.

  • “As a General Contractor with 21 years of work after my CSU education, the plans produced by SEAD are able to relate the structure of the building to be understood in the best possible way. I appreciate the level of detail displayed in the drawings that answer my own questions as I progress through their documents.  The hardest to understand locations of a structure are detailed and elevated as the engineers, themselves, worked through the problems by drawing them. There is no better way to save money on a building than to build it on paper before I put a worker on site.  The value of that is priceless.” —– Daniel Jessen, Jessen Construction Green Building

  • “SEAD, made all of our dreams come true! They listened to us, suggested ideas, and created a vision within our budget. The interaction with our builder made the process so easy and seamless. We are very grateful for SEAD’s guidance and the final product was amazing.” —— Recent Client

  • “I have been working with SEAD for many years. Caryn, Jake and their team have been wonderful to work with. Working with them from conceptual ideas with the homeowner and contractor is a team effort. In my relationship with SEAD, they listen to the client / contractor to understand what is important to them in their project and help create a plan for it. I have had projects ranging from small to total tear downs, rebuild, and new homes. SEAD has helped with permitting, zoning, sustainable building practices, along with engineering  from the beginning to end. They are knowledgeable, professional, and great to have on your team.” —– Johnny Sawyer, Sawyer Construction.

  • “Jake and I have worked together to develop the engineering around some complex architectural designs. He and the SEAD team are a pleasure to work with. Jake is very creative and able to quickly identify the key design issues and the most efficient structural approach. He stays pragmatic, considers constructability on challenging sites, and is willing to work with the geotechnical engineer to ensure continuity. Looking forward to collaborating on future projects and seeing the SEAD team continue to grow!”——Specialty Geotechnical Contractor
